From luxury to adventure, here are six ideas for how to celebrate Mother’s Day this year in and around Harrogate:
Afternoon Tea
If your mum enjoys a quintessentially English experience, then a traditional afternoon tea is always a winner. Around Harrogate you are spoilt for choice when it comes to finding an afternoon tea your mum will love. Harrogate’s very own Bettys Tea Rooms are always a firm favourite, or she might prefer being treated like royalty at Goldsborough Hall or a Yorkshire tea with local ingredients at the newly refurbished Fodder Café.
The Art of Chocolate at Bettys
If afternoon tea at Bettys isn’t quite your mum’s thing, maybe she will enjoy their chocolate making experience? Here she will create hand-finished chocolates with guidance from expert tutors and leave with two boxes of ganache chocolates, alongside other treats to enjoy at home. This experience is available on Saturday 29th March.
A Gin Masterclass
For the mum who prefers gin to chocolate, how about a gin masterclass at one of Harrogate’s distilleries? The Spirit of Harrogate offers a choice of experiences, including a journey through the history of gin with the opportunity to sample their range or the Master Distiller experience where your Mum can distil her own gin to take home in a bottle with a personalised label. Experiences are available on Saturday 29th March.
Axe-Throwing or Rope Walking
The adventurous mums out there are likely to be more excited by throwing axes than sampling tea and scones. For them, Ripley Castle Activity Centre is your answer. Perhaps your mum will discover a hidden talent for double-handed axe throws or a passion for swinging through the high ropes in the woodland canopies of Ripley Castle. Both activities are available on Saturday 29th March.
Llama Trekking
Any animal-loving mum who enjoys being in nature will enjoy llama trekking. Nidderdale Llamas offer year-round experiences with llamas and alpacas, all within the spectacular landscape of Nidderdale. You can choose from either full or half-day llama treks or the Experience option which includes an introduction to the history of llamas and alpacas, interaction with the animals and a short walk.
Harrogate’s Turkish Baths
With Harrogate’s spa town roots, the Turkish Baths deserve consideration for Mother’s Day. Britain’s most restored Victorian Turkish baths offer a ritual of heating, cooling and cleansing the body using traditional methods in luxury surroundings. This is an experience that will leave your Mum in a state of complete relaxation of body and mind… Bliss!
